Collaborating Partner of this month: We are delighted to collaborate with other resource centres and eye care websites. In this issue we wish to feature one of our collaborating partners: Vision 2020 - The Right to Sight. VISION 2020: The Right to Sight is a global initiative which aims to help eliminate avoidable blindness by the year 2020, jointly launched by the World Health Organization and the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) together with more than 20 international non-governmental organizations involved in eye care and prevention and management of blindness. Over the next two decades, VISION 2020 will take steps to prevent an estimated 100 million people from becoming blind. Vision 2020's strength lies in Partnership: Eye-care personnel - ophthalmologists, ophthalmic assistants, nurses and optometrists, International and National Non-Governmental Development Organizations (NGDO), National Ministries of Health and Departments of Health Services, Corporate Eye-Care service providers. All the above individuals and organizations are represented within the International Agency for Prevention of Blindness (IAPB). IAPB has an Executive Task Force which collaborates with the World Health Organization (the WHO), in implementing VISION 2020. Aravind and Vision 2020 - The Right to Sight: Aravind is one of the partners of Vision 2020 India and the National Secretariat is located at Lions Aravind Institute of Community Ophthalmology. Aravind is one of the Advisory Board members for Vision 2020 India Programme and our Executive Director Mr. R.D. Thulasiraj is the President of the SEAR region for Vision 2020 - The Right to Sight Programme. Moreover this website - Vision 2020 e-resource in particular aims to reach the goals of Vision 2020 offering the resources which the developing countries would need to implement their service delivery on a sustainable basis. Hence we are looking forward to extend the support more widely and we place our deep appreciation in strengthening the relationship.
